Motorola and Mada Communications Launch WiMAX Network in Jordan

 Motorola  Inc. (NYSE:MOT) and Mada Communications today announced the commercial launch of an end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network in Jordan. The network enables Mada Communications to offer wireless broadband services, including voice and high-speed data, to customers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the region.

The WiMAX network, which was deployed in six months, ensures peak performance delivery of fixed and nomadic voice and data services to residential and enterprise customers. Through Motorola’s wholesale model introduction, Mada Communications is also able to offer these WiMAX services to other Internet Service Providers (ISPs), expanding the potential of the WiMAX network and increasing revenues for the company.

Initially, wireless internet subscribers in Amman, Irbid, Zaraq are able to enjoy an enhanced level of wireless broadband service, while Mada Communications expands its 4G wireless network to the rest of the country. Consequently, consumers will have at their finger tips an array of products for home and business applications.

Motorola Powers Unwired Fiji’s Mobile WiMAX Network

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has been selected by Unwired Fiji to design and deploy an end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network to upgrade and provide increased capacity to the operator's existing network for expansion of network coverage and capacity. The deployment allows Unwired Fiji to offer advanced broadband services supported by Motorola’s carrier-grade communications equipment and services, strengthening the operator’s leading market position in the region.

 

Unwired Fiji, the country’s first wireless broadband Internet service provider, is dedicated to building a nationwide, state-of-the-art telecommunications network, offering full Internet services and bringing the media mobility experiences to home users and businesses. The WiMAX network deployment is expected to be completed in 2009, and the operator plans to launch services progressively this year.

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has received the WiMAX Forum Certified™ seal of approval for two of its customer premises equipment devices (CPE) and one WiMAX™ access point. With this recognition, Motorola’s 2.5GHz CPEi 25150 (data only), its award-winning CPEi 25750 (data and Voice over IP), and its WiMAX Access Point (WAP) 25600 solution join Motorola’s portfolio of WiMAX Forum Certified products. Motorola’s WAP 25400 was certified in June 2008.

Top 22 Operators Account for 50% of Total WiMAX Subscribers

 

The top 22 operators worldwide will contribute nearly 2.5 million subscribers by the end of 2009 – up from 1.24 million today – and close to 4 million by the end of 2010 according to the latest research report from Maravedis entitled “The Top 22: Operators Who Will Make or Break WiMAX.”

Operators selected for the report enjoy two key conditions: they have deep enough pockets to deploy major networks and have access to sufficient spectrum to be profitable in the long term. In fact 46% of operators interviewed have 50MHz or more of spectrum, while 45% have more than US$100 million in cash.

“A major focus of this report is to provide insights of the plans and experiences of the top 22 operators,” said Adlane Fellah, CEO of Maravedis Inc.
