Worldmax and Beceem Expand WiMAX Network Performance

10th January, 2009

Worldmax, the wireless telecom provider, announced that it has upgraded the capabilities of its commercial service to 5 Mbps downlink data rates. This speed upgrade is available to all subscribers wishing to benefit from the faster download speeds through a simple software download plus an adjustment of their subscription service. Following its network deployment and service improvement plan Worldmax is now launching the 5 Mbps service after careful evaluation of the device performance and user experience in a 3.5 GHz environment. The network optimization was performed in close partnership with WiMAX chip partner Beceem, and the results look so promising that Worldmax is expecting to introduce 32 Mbps on its network in 2009.

“We have worked very closely with our primary partner Alcatel-Lucent and our strategic chip partner Beceem, and together we have been able to redefine the performance envelope of mobile 3.5GHz networks,” said Keimpe B. Algra, COO & CTO, Worldmax. “Without Beceem and the amazing capabilities of their advanced WiMAX chip we would not be able to offer this performance upgrade, and we are looking forward to further increase the service capabilities of our network in 2009.”

“We have been able to work with many of the leaders in the WiMAX space and have enabled a number of Mobile WiMAX firsts, but enabling seamless hand-off at 3.5GHz while maintaining high throughput was a unique challenge,” said, Babu Mandava, CEO of Beceem. “We are proud to have been able to extend the capabilities of our industry leading device solution, and we could not have done this without the close collaboration with Worldmax. The outcome of this team work enables Worldmax to take a market leadership position over other wireless service providers in the Netherlands, and we are looking forward to be a part of their growing market success in 2009. This is one great example how the WiMAX ecosystem works together to innovate!”
