Alpha Networks Using Sequans Chips to Manufacture WiMAX Consumer Devices

26th March , 2007

SEQUANS Communications, a leading supplier and developer of fixed and mobile WiMAX semiconductor solutions, has signed an agreement with leading global networking ODM, Alpha Networks, whereby Alpha will use Sequans chips to build WiMAX fixed and portable consumer products based on the 802.16e-2005 standard. The products to be manufactured use Sequans’ mobile WiMAX chips, including the SQN1130, Sequans newest chip that was introduced today at the CTIA Wireless 2007 trade show. The first device to become available under the agreement is a PC card that will be on display at Sequans booth during the CTIA show in Orlando March 27-29.

“Sequans’ WiMAX semiconductor solutions are clearly the best in the industry,” said Jeff Lin, director at Alpha Networks. “Their chips deliver the highest throughput and the lowest power consumption, thereby giving us the best foundation possible for building WiMAX devices. Sequans is the most experienced WiMAX chipmaker and has been setting the standard for performance since the early days of WiMAX.”

“Alpha Networks has demonstrated not only skill, but speed in delivering products based on our chip, such as the PCMCIA card that we have on display today,” said Michael Class, Sequans VP of sales. “Alpha will be delivering several WiMAX devices over the coming months and we are looking forward to working closely with Alpha to develop high performance WiMAX devices, integrating functionalities such as WIFI and VOIP.”

Devices based on Sequans’ SQN1110 chip are available now and devices based on Sequans’ newest chip, the SQN1130 Wave 2-ready MIMO chip, will become available before the end of Q2 2007.

Sequans SQN1130 chip features full 2X2 MIMO and the industry’s highest throughput and lowest power consumption, which are enabled by Sequans patent-pending MIMO algorithm that delivers maximum likelihood performance while minimizing power consumption. The SQN1130 delivers more than 30 Mbps throughput while drawing less than 250 mW of power.
