As part of the
evolving development within the WiMAX standards, DOVADO and
Intel® Solution Services has together with the Swedish operator,
MobileCity,
in Skellefteå, hosted a quality verification test using equipment
from the
DOVADO product portfolio.
The network infrastructure,
based on the 802.16a (Fixed-Wireless Access)
standard has been used to transport broadband data up to 10Mbps full-duplex
across distances in excess of 35km. With an affordable and compact
offering
from MobileCity, the subscriber is able to connect from a rural location
at
Ethernet speeds within a short amount of time upon antenna installation.
The test conducted by all
parties was to qualify the delivery capability of
voice services on the perpetual wireless transmission medium, WiMAX.
In such
tests, Class 5 call services were thoroughly qualified with results
proving
that the transmission characteristics of WiMAX is in par with traditional
wireline Ethernet in terms of bandwidth availability, low round-trip
latency, minimal packet-loss and Quality-of-Service (QoS) for prioritizing
voice above high bandwidth consuming services such as streaming video
and
file transfer.
"Intel® Solution
Services' on-site expertise provided validation of the
end-to-end solution. This project relied strongly upon our VoIP and
WiMax
expertise on one hand and our worldwide network on the other what
helped to
bring together key technologies and industry players. The trial demonstrates
that WiMAX is well suited to support VoIP and validates the capabilities
of
the next generation of wireless technologies.", said Jörgen
Forsberg, Nordic
Regional Manager for Intel® Solution Services.
With a simple Plug-and-Play
approach to the subscriber, the DOVADO
Residential Gateway (RG) offers Ethernet and Analog Telephony interfaces,
now a globally-deployed standard; to connect their devices and be
part of a
Wireless Broadband Access and Telephony network in mere seconds.
The DOVADO Portfolio offers
operators to deploy voice in a more managed and
cost-efficient manner in order to maintain a large network without
complications in commissioning, provisioning and supporting the deployed
lines.
