Cambridge Broadband Limited has joined the WiMAX Forum as a principal member to support the worldwide adoption of broadband wireless access standards. The company will be introducing WiMAX-compliant versions of its market-leading VectaStar equipment. The WiMAX Forum was established to accelerate the market adoption of IEEE 802.16-based wireless broadband equipment, providing operators with greater economies of scale. The Forum's membership includes a number of leading broadband wireless component and equipment manufacturers. Peter Wharton, Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge Broadband, explains: "The key strength of WiMAX is its support for interoperability. We recognise the industry demand for this and are joining the WiMAX Forum to help address this demand. The superior performance of our VectaStar equipment provides us with a strong position for introducing WiMAX-compliant products." Cambridge Broadband's VectaStar equipment provides operators with carrier-class capability of up to 60Mbps full duplex per customer. The VectaStar system provides operators with excellent non-line-of-sight coverage, and can be used for both access and backhaul applications. Peter Wharton goes on to comment: "VectaStar is already selling very strongly on its existing merits and the introduction of WiMAX-compliant products means we will continue to provide our customers with the maximum choice, as well as attracting customers in new markets where WiMAX-compliance could be advantageous." Cambridge Broadband expects to introduce the WiMAX-compliant versions of its VectaStar technology in early 2005. This equipment will be fully interoperable with existing networks, and will be made available to both current and new customers. |
