AirNet Communications Corporation, the technology leader in software-defined base station products for wireless communications announced today that it has become a principal member of the WiMAX Forum(TM). AirNet brings over 10 years of broadband, software-defined radio product expertise utilizing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ("OFDM") technology implementing Fast Fourier Transforms ("FFT") to the WiMAX Forum. "AirNet pioneered broadband, SDR, OFDM, FFT mobile wireless network infrastructure," said Glenn Ehley, President and CEO of AirNet. "More importantly, AirNet's institutional knowledge and our proven ability to cost-effectively integrate smart antenna technology into our SuperCapacity(TM) base station ideally positions us for the stringent high-speed data requirements of WiMAX, particularly once mobility is added to the standard." "AirNet's distinctive core competency combines both wireless mobility and OFDM FFT experience," said WiMAX Forum President Ron Resnick. "As the 802.16 standard evolves, the WiMAX Forum should benefit from AirNet's competencies." "We have recently demonstrated 256 sub-channel OFDM signals on our current carrier-grade base station and our technology is capable of supporting both the 256 sub-channel and 2,048 sub-channel OFDM waveforms defined in the 802.16 standards," said Terry Williams, vice president and CTO for AirNet. "Due to AirNet's SDR architecture, we are confident in our ability to quickly adapt our products and technology to 802.16-2004 and deliver highly reliable and compelling solutions to the marketplace." |
