US : Navini Networks, Inc., a leading provider of non-line-of-sight (NLOS), zero-install , wide-area wireless broadband technology, announced it has joined the WiMAX Forum™ and will add WiMAX-Certified™ systems to its Ripwave™ product portfolio and deliver Navini's patented Adaptive phased array antenna technology in IEEE 802.16 standards-based products. Navini believes that Revision e to the IEEE 802.16 standard which supports mobility is a key operator requirement. "Navini Networks has always been committed to developing, supporting and implementing operator-accepted standards for wide-area wireless broadband networks, as it is our belief that standards are necessary to facilitate the healthy growth of this industry," said Alastair Westgarth, president of Navini Networks. "Navini will work with other key industry leaders to help promote and execute the WiMAX Forum's vision of broadband wireless interoperability." Navini already offers carriers a product line based on the ATIS, T1P1.4 standard -- an Adaptive beamforming, portable NLOS Metro-Area wireless broadband solution similar to the functionality envisioned in Revision e to 802.16, which is expected to be ratified by IEEE later this year. Navini plans to support and evolve their products in both of the standards with advances in the Adaptive antenna technology as well as providing scalable equipment that allows for migration to Revision e of the 802.16 standard. "Navini is already delivering NLOS wireless broadband services today in more than 25 countries with very similar functionality to the proposed Revision e of the 802.16 standard. With plans to add Revision e WiMAX-Certified products to the Navini Ripwave portfolio, our customers will be able to leverage the advantages of Adaptive phased array technology and Navini's commercial experience in delivering mobile broadband systems," added Westgarth. "We are delighted to have Navini join the WiMAX Forum, and given their strengths developing non-line-of-sight wireless broadband technologies, we look forward to their participation to our efforts," Ron Resnick, president of the WiMAX Forum. "The company's commercial experience deploying wireless broadband networks certainly will help fuel our momentum as well as achieve our milestones to ensure the proliferation of interoperable WiMAX-Certified products on a worldwide scale." About the WiMAX Forum The WiMAX Forum™ is an industry-led, non-profit corporation formed to help promote and certify the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products using the IEEE 802.16 and ETSI HiperMAN wireless MAN specifications. The forum's goal is to accelerate the introduction of these devices into the marketplace. WiMAX-Certified™ products will be fully interoperable and support Metropolitan Broadband Fixed and Portable Applications.
