Motorola Powers Unwired Fiji’s Mobile WiMAX Network

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has been selected by Unwired Fiji to design and deploy an end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network to upgrade and provide increased capacity to the operator's existing network for expansion of network coverage and capacity. The deployment allows Unwired Fiji to offer advanced broadband services supported by Motorola’s carrier-grade communications equipment and services, strengthening the operator’s leading market position in the region.

 

Unwired Fiji, the country’s first wireless broadband Internet service provider, is dedicated to building a nationwide, state-of-the-art telecommunications network, offering full Internet services and bringing the media mobility experiences to home users and businesses. The WiMAX network deployment is expected to be completed in 2009, and the operator plans to launch services progressively this year.

Motorola Receives WiMAX Forum® Certification for Three 2.5GHz Products

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has received the WiMAX Forum Certified™ seal of approval for two of its customer premises equipment devices (CPE) and one WiMAX™ access point. With this recognition, Motorola’s 2.5GHz CPEi 25150 (data only), its award-winning CPEi 25750 (data and Voice over IP), and its WiMAX Access Point (WAP) 25600 solution join Motorola’s portfolio of WiMAX Forum Certified products. Motorola’s WAP 25400 was certified in June 2008.

Motorola Expands WiMAX Network for Far EasTone Telecom

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that Far EasTone Telecom (FET) has awarded Motorola additional contracts to expand FET’s WiMAX network in Taichung, Taiwan. Following the previous WiMAX contracts with FET signed in 2007, these new contracts further signify Motorola’s commitment to advanced wireless technology. The projects will boost network performance and provide new management features, preparing FET for the commercial launch of mobile broadband services by the end of 2009.

 

Motorola will deploy its WAP access point portfolio, Motorola’s high-performance base stations for WiMAX networks, and integrate Connectivity Service Network (CSN) Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA)/Home Agent (HA) solution to extend FET’s existing network and provide functions like access control and billing. Motorola has also enhanced the previously deployed Network Management System (NMS) for the expanded network and the new CSN components. Motorola NMS increases network stability and availability. It also ensures improved network performance with advanced design and flexible integration capabilities.

Samsung Actively Extends Its Leadership of Mobile WiMAX in the Whole Pan-American Region

Samsung Electronics, a leading provider of Mobile WiMAX technology, today announced that the company expects to provide Mobile WiMAX technologies to Canada and several South American countries following its successful deployment in the United States.

Woonsub Kim, Executive Vice President and head of Telecommunication Systems Division of Samsung Electronics, said, “North American Mobile WiMAX business gets on the right track with collaborations of industry top-tier investors. I believe that Mobile WiMAX is the best available service also in Latin America, which is sparsely populated in many mountainous areas and small islands. We are looking at the opportunities to bring mobile WiMAX services in Canada and some Latin American countries and hope to conclude some of the deals by end of this year.” He continued with strong confidence.
